The Queen’s Jubilee was a grand celebration to behold in 2012, which procured more than 100,000 cards of congratulations to Her Majesty from citizens across the country.

Therefore, it came as a surprise to Maureen Heath, member of West Chiltington’s Women’s Institute (WI), when she found the handmade card the group had sent to the Queen at a Jubillee exhibition in Sandringham.

Created by talented WI member Ruth Voke, it features a rose and a butterfly painted on silk, mounted on a cream card with the message ‘To our Diamond Queen’ and embellished with a second embroidered butterfly.

Inside the card is a group photograph of the WI members taken by Paul Hayward.

Mrs Heath was also delighted to discover that after the Royal exhibit the card, together with the other 99 selected for the display, would be carefully wrapped, packed and kept for posterity.
