Winners of Haywards Heath Christmas card competition revealed

These are the talented young winners of the Christmas card competition in Haywards Heath '“ with the overall winner's design being used as the official card for The Orchards shopping centre.

The winners were announced this week by town mayor Jim Knight and Collingwood Batchellor manager, Katie Heath, as the town gears up for its Christmas Festival this weekend.

St Joseph’s, St Wilfrid’s, Warden Park Primary, Harlands, Northland’s Wood and Bolnore all took part.

- Early Years – winner: Mae Rose Phelrin (Harlands), runner up: Mila Saunders, Badgers (WPPA)

- Key Stage 1 – winner: Joe Waller (St Wilfrid’s), runner up: Thomas Pester (Harlands)

- Key Stage 2 – winner: Milo Heffernan, (Bolnore), runner up: Joseph S, St Xavier, Year 6, (St. Joseph’s)

The overall winner was Mia Marsh from Northlands Wood, whose design will be the official Christmas card for The Orchards shopping centre.

Nicola Bird, Orchards manager, said: “We’ve so much talent here in our town, I’ve been amazed at the high standard of creativity and so proud to have the winning entry as our annual Christmas card.”

The best designs are being displayed at the centre, which will also be at the heart of the festivities this weekend (November 24&25).

The fun will begin on Saturday at 10.30am with performances during the day by the Ruwach Band, Adur Concert Band, the combined choirs of Northlands Wood and Warden Park Primary schools, stilt walking jazz musicians Top Bananas, Becca Huggett, Dance with Emily troupe and Josepha and her Spanish Dancers.

Father Christmas and his live reindeer will feature in a grand procession at 4.30pm, along with a marching band, many of the entertainers, as well as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and Donald and Daisy Duck, town mayor Jim Knight and the Middy’s Gina Stainer with our special children who have been chosen to help switch on the Christmas lights.

The grand switch-on will take place at 5pm, followed by a free firework display, courtesy of the town council, at Victoria Park at 6pm.

The fun continues on Sunday with music and entertainment from 11.30am featuring the Oathall Jazz Bands, the Mid Sussex Band, Ariel Drama Academy and musicians from Ensemble Reza Community Orchestra.
