World at Nicholas's fingertips

A donated laptop is enabling a Felpham schoolboy to discover the world at his fingertips.

Bognor Hotham Rotary Cluhb members spent just under 500 on the IT equipment to help Nicholas Pearce with his schoolwork.

Nicholas (9) is partially sighted and has learning disabilities and is a pupil at Bishop Tufnell CE Junior School.

The school has been able to install new software in the laptop to convert text to Braille and to link it to a Braille embossing machine. Nicholas will also be able to use the laptop at home.

Headteacher Shane Morton said: 'Nicholas is a lovely boy and he is making great progress. We are so grateful to the Rotary club for their kind support.'

John Holman, the club's outgoing president, presented the laptop. Its cost was met by donations to the club's Christmas float last year. 'The laptop will change Nicholas's life really,' he stated. 'I am sure he will be able to use it for many purposes. This is typical of the community initiatives with which the club gets involved.'
