DOWN MEMORY LANE: Looking for old friends

Locating an ex-Army friend he spent just over three years with in Malaya (Malaysia) from 1957 to 1960, during the Emergency, one of the forgotten wars, is the aim of Paul Hadfield, who writes:

“The person’s name is David Collins, he must now be about 73 to 76 years old and was a sergeant in the Cheshire Regiment.

In 1957 his address was St David’s Drive, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, no luck there. The family moved later (September 29, 1962) to Grange Farm Lodge, Barrack Lane, Aldwick, Bognor Regis.

It would appear that this later address no longer exists and if it was farmland, may have been built on.

On Google Earth, Barrack Lane seems to be a very long road and Grange Farm in all variations is not recognised.

Many of our old comrades after this length of time have now ‘snuffed it’ and fallen off their perches and not many are left.

I sincerely hope David is not one of them, so this is a ‘last-ditch’ effort to find him.

The only other piece of information I have is that his father’s name was a little unusual – Ethelbert John Boniface Collins. Mother’s name was Helen.

Also searching for someone is Bernard Doxey, who writes:

“I am trying again to find a Lilian A Turner, nee Martlew, or any of her family.

Her parents were Arthur D Martlew and Elsie Nellie, nee Nicholson.

Lily had two brothers, Sid and Cecil, also a sister, Dorothy. Lily married a Robert Turner in 1956.

Also, I would like to contact any children or grandchildren of any Martlews mentioned.
