Dramatic tie with Horsham leaves Hastings Priory with work to do

Hastings Priory CC have two games to save their Sussex Premier Division status – after a dramatic tie against last year’s champions.

Priory host Three Bridges tomorrow then finish the season away to Preston Nomads next week – and have work to do to climb out of bottom spot, the sole relegation place.

Harry Scowen’s side are only five points behind ninth-placed Bognor and are within 25 points of three other clubs – meaning half the 10 teams in the league are still in danger of falling through the trapdoor.

Priory came away from Horsham’s Cricketfield Road last Saturday with points from a tie.

After winning the toss and deciding to bat, 50 from Alfie Hunter and 43 apiece by Eddy Finch and Troy Henry took them to a total of 237-9 in their 50 overs.

Horsham were 147-1 in reply at one stage and later 207-3 and looked on course for victory but Priory’s bowlers kept plugging away.

With four runs required from the last available over, two came from the first five balls and just a single from the last, resulting in a tie as they closed on 237-7. Adam Pye claimed 2-31 and Adam Barton 2-51.
