SUSSEX have struggled on the second morning of their County Championship game with Durham at Arundel Castle.

At lunch, they trail Durham’s first innings total of 301 by 166 runs and have only two wickets remaining.

Chris Rushworth has put in a fine display with the ball and has figures of 5-43 so far this innings.

Sussex began day two on 44 for two with Matt Machan 11 not out and Ed Joyce nought not out.

However, Machan added just ten to his overnight score when he was superbly caught by Keaton Jennings off the bowling of Graham Onions.

Luke Wright was then out for five as he was caught behind by Michael Richardson to give Chris Rushworth his third wicket of the innings.

It did not get any better for Sussex as Ben Brown fell for 15 to leave them 91-5.

Ed Joyce brought the hundred up for his side with a boundary but then went the very next ball as he picked out Keaton Jennings at gully off John Hastings.

The seventh Sussex wicket fell ten minutes before lunch when Chris Nash played round a straight one and was clean bowled by Rushworth.

Shahzad then became Rushworth’s fifth victim of the innings with the last ball before lunch to leave Sussex 135-8 at the interval.

They still need 17 to avoid the follow-on target of 152, with two wickets remaining.
