Man United v Brighton injury news: 11 out, three doubts and one certain starter
Manchester United vs Brighton in the Carabao Cup third round from Old Trafford - Wednesday 8pm
Brighton and Hove Albion have a host of injury issues as they head to Manchester United for the third round of the Carabao Cup.
The Seagulls are fourth in the Premier League after four matches and will look to take their encouraging form into the domestic cup competition.
Fabian Hurzeler's men are though struggling with injuries and will likely make plenty of changes for the Wednesday night clash at Old Trafford.
One certain starter is however 'cup keeper' Jason Steele. The 35-year-old is Hurzeler's trusted No 2 for Premier League matches but the head coach confirmed Steele will be between the sticks for Brighton at Old Trafford.
It's Steele's first start of the campaign and his first taste of action since returning from the World Cup with England as Thomas Tuchel's training keeper.
Brighton outs and doubts
Yankuba Minteh - out: The flying Gambian injured his leg in pre-season against Roma and will be out until after the international break at least. Hurzeler recently insisted he remains 100 per cent committed despite his failed summer transfer to Liverpool.
Jack Hinshelwood - out: The England under-21 international remains sidelined with a “small issue” and is targeting the Sunderland match after the international break as potential return date.
Stefanos Tzimas - out: The Greek striker did his ACL last season and Brighton are quite rightly refusing to rush his return to action.
Mats Wieffer - out: The Dutchman took a ball to the face at Chelsea and injured his knee in the process. A strange injury but he's expected to be available after the international break.
Zadok Yohanna - out: The Nigerian winger joined in the summer for around £21m but needs time to get up to speed. Another who will be back after the break.
Evan Ferguson - out: The Ireland international injured his ankle while on loan at Roma last term and continues his recovery from ankle surgery. Hurzeler has so far refused to place a time line on his return.
Georginio - doubt: The French striker was "close" to return against Leeds but suffered a "setback". He was then "close" for the Coventry match but no sign of him. He's now described as "close" to face Manchester United, so make of that what you will.
Femi Azeez - doubt: The deadline day arrival from Millwall will be assessed before Wednesday night. The £15m is still managing a "slight strain" but has not ben ruled out of facing United.
Man United outs and doubts
The match will arrive too soon for former Brighton man Carlos Baleba, who joined United for £70m last month. The Cameroon international midfielder continues his recovery from an ankle injury but has been pictured working hard in the gym at United’s training ground.
"He’s got a little ankle issue," said head coach Michael Carrick. "But we knew that before, so it's no major issue. It will be great to have him back.”
Carlos Baleba - out: Ankle. Amad - out: foot. Matthijs de Ligt - out: back. Manuel Ugarte - out: knee. Tom Heaton - out: thigh. Luke Shaw - doubt: thigh.
