Drivers urged to plan ahead as A259 near Bognor road restrictions take effect

Drivers travelling along the A259 between Bognor Regis and Littlehampton are being warned of temporary changes at the Yapton Road junction as part of ongoing improvement works.

The left-turn lane from the A259 into Yapton Road, for traffic heading towards Middleton-on-Sea, has been closed to allow advance water diversion works to take place as part of the wider A259 scheme, a spokesperson for West Sussex Highways confirmed.

Motorists are also being prohibited from turning right onto the A259 when emerging from Yapton Lane, with the restriction introduced on safety grounds.

The restrictions form part of preparatory utility work ahead of planned improvements to the A259 corridor, according to West Sussex County Council.

The temporary closures are due to remain in place until November 13.

A signed diversion route has been put in place to help drivers navigate the affected area while the work is carried out.

Motorists are advised to follow the diversion signs and allow extra time for their journeys.

The temporary restrictions are linked to the A259 Bognor Regis to Littlehampton corridor enhancement scheme, which aims to improve several junctions along the route.

The county council says utility companies are relocating equipment and services ahead of the main improvements. Carrying out this work in advance is intended to reduce construction delays, costs and risks, as well as minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users.

The wider proposals include junction upgrades and improved infrastructure for pedestrians, cyclists and bus passengers, alongside measures intended to improve road safety and journey-time reliability.
