Brighton explain Femi Azeez injury after Millwall transfer - can he play against Coventry?
All the latest team and injury news for Brighton and Hove Albion and across the Premier League
Brighton will closely assess the fitness of new summer signing Femi Azeez this week.
The Nigerian international winger moved to Albion on transfer deadline day from Millwall in a £15m deal.
Azeez, 25, was unable to feature in Brighton's 1-1 draw against Leeds United on Saturday and attention now turns to Albion's Premier League clash at newly-promoted Coventry this Sunday.
Hurzeler: We have to wait
The former Reading man continues to manage a slight knock but head coach Fabian Hurzeler hopes to have him available to face Frank Lampard's men.
Azeez had been struggling "with a slight strain" in the last few days at Millwall.
"Femi is obviously carrying a slight injury at the moment," said Hurzeler ahead of the draw with Leeds. “With Femi, we have to wait this weekend, and hopefully he will be available for the next game [Coventry].”
Hurzeler added: “Femi’s a winger, he can score with the right and with the left foot. He has really good decision-making in the final third.
“He's a hard worker. I'm really pleased with the transfer window.
“Of course there have been a lot of changes. Now it's about us integrating all the new players as quickly as possible and becoming a really strong unit and that's our responsibility now. “
Sussex World verdict
Brighton pushed hard to bring in Azeez from Millwall. The Nigerian was keen to test himself in the Premier League and Albion needed more options in wide areas.
Yankuba Minteh - who almost joined Liverpol last - remains sidleined with injury and Kaoru Mitoma remains at least a few weeks away with his hamstring issue.
Azeez should provide goals and assists for Brighton as they juggle the demands of Premier League, Conference League and the domestic cups.
If the Premier League match at Coventry arrives to soon for Azeez, then Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup third round clash at Manchester United could be an ideal start for the winger. The same too for another deadline day arrival Chema Andres.
Hurzeler on Andres
Andres was an unused substitute for Brighton against Leeds.
Hurzeler added: “Chema brings a clear position profile as a six. He's very good in understanding the game.
“He's always trying to play forward. He's good at scanning. I think he had a good education in the youth, you see he's very technical and therefore that's definitely a good add-on for us.”
