Striker Damon Aston returned to score a brace and Ben Bissett was also on target as Roffey eased into Round 3.

Manager Julian Miller had a full strength squad to pick from and his decision to keep faith in brothers Ross and Duncan Hirschfield was rewarded as the pair claimed everything in the air.

Having enjoyed the better of the opening half hour Roffey went ahead when, from Paul White’s free kick pressure was applied on the home defence and the ball landed at the feet of opportunist Aston who made no mistake from five yards.

Fellow striker Dean Robinson held the ball up with strength and intelligence, allowing Roffey’s midfield quartet of White, Phelan, Swaine and Bissett to weave their magic.

On the stroke of half time Roffey grabbed a second with an early contender for goal of the season, Bissett unleashing a wonderstrike from 35 yards that screamed into the top corner after good build up play from Vinnie Swaine and Aston.

Roffey continued to control things in the second half but took until the 73rd minutes to score again when Aston slotted home after and another good move that included Steve White and Swaine.

Assistant manager Dan Redman said: “It was great to have all but one of the squad available and whilst Bissett’s goal was special, Aston weighed in with two goals and an assist.

“We defended much better as a team, something we worked on in training and the excellent surface helped us play good football.”
