Former Sheffield United, AFC Wimbledon and Sheffield Wednesday defender joins Crawley Town
Crawley Town have announced the signing of experienced centre-back Ben Heneghan on a deal until the start of January.
The 33-year-old has trained with the club for the past week and has impressed management during his short trial spell.
Heneghan brings a wealth of Football League experience, leadership and defensive quality, having enjoyed spells across English football and the Scottish Premiership.
Born in Manchester, Heneghan began his career in the youth ranks at Everton and Stoke City before making his senior breakthrough with Chester. His impressive performances earned him the club's Player of the Year award and recognition at England C level.

A move to Scottish Premiership side Motherwell followed in 2016, where he established himself as a regular starter before securing a transfer to Sheffield United the following year. During his time with the Blades, Heneghan enjoyed two successful loan spells at Blackpool, further strengthening his reputation as a commanding and reliable defender.
The 6ft 3in centre-back subsequently represented AFC Wimbledon, where he captained the side, Sheffield Wednesday and Fleetwood Town, before joining Port Vale in 2024. He was part of the Vale squad that secured promotion from League Two during the 2024-25 campaign.
Known for his aerial strength, physical presence and organisational qualities, Heneghan offers considerable experience and leadership at the heart of defence, having played over 350 career games, with over 200 of those coming in the EFL.
The defender will be available for selection for Sunday afternoon’s FA Cup first round match away at Wimborne Town.
