Former Sheffield United and Brighton striker has his say on Thomas Tuchel's tactics after England crash out of World Cup
Thomas Tuchel has taken a lot of criticism for his tactics in England’s World Cup semi-final against Argentina this week - but would Crawley Town boss Colin Kazim-Richards have made the same changes?
England went 1-0 up in the 55th minute thanks to Anthony Gordon’s strike but after that went defensive with Tuchel bringing on defenders for attackers to protect the lead for the last 30 minutes.
But the tactic did not work as goals from Enzo Fernandez (85th minute) and Lautaro Martinez (in added time) saw the old rivals progress to World Cup final to face Spain.
Fans, pundits and experts have criticised Tuchel, with some saying he should be sacked for what he did (has anyone checked if Jamie O’Hara is ok?).

But what did the Reds boss think? “With all due respect, I don't like to put myself in someone else's shoes because you don't know what they feel at that moment,” he said.
“You can't compare Crawley to England but we were fighting for professional survival [at the end of the season], so I kind of can. Until you're in it, you don't understand. People's lives on the line, Would I have made some of those tactical changes? No, probably not.
“Sometimes when you take off an attacking player or a ball handler or a playmaker and you put on a defensive structure or a defensive player a bit more, I think you're inviting a lot of pressure.”
The former Brighton striker added that the blame can’t all be put on Tuchaelo and the coaching staff.
“ I did see the coaching staff screaming out to the players to get out of the box. Nobody knows what he actually said. Everybody's just talking in terms of, ‘well, if I was there, I would have done this’ and ‘he should have said this’. You don't know if that's what he said.”
But Kazim-Richards, who played in South Americas during his career, gave another reason why England did not win.
“I just think Argentina are the better team,” he said. “So when we use ‘team’, I mean not individuals, Argentina are the better team. The better team went through.
“I know people won’t like me saying that, I just honestly believe that.”
