On a sunny Sunday afternoon this Mid Sussex derby provided great end to end action with neither side wanting to give an inch.

However it was Mid Sussex Blues who took a lead into half time with a clinical finish from man of the match Finley Evans.

Hassocks re grouped and came out fighting and were rewarded when Joe Smith equalised. However Blues played their way back into the game and again took the lead through striker Omar Ashby.

Matthew Perry then added a third and it seemed all over until Smith scored a scrambled goal from a Hassocks corner to take the game to the wire.

Despite a barrage of attacks the Blues defence stood firm and held out for victory.

Blues manager Danny White said: “We are delighted with a great cup win and I am sure the boys will have some great memories to take away from the day. It was a close match and both teams played some superb football that made it very exciting until the final whistle. I could not have asked for any more from my players, every one of them gave 100% and showed real talent. It was a well organised event that really showcased youth football in Sussex, all those involved should be very proud.”

Hassocks manager Tom Sensier added “Firstly congratulations to Mid Sussex Blues, it was a good match played in great spirit and thanks to the league for putting on such a great event, but most of all thanks to the players who showed all how to have a good competitive match, but with real sportsmanship and respect.”

It was a valiant display by Cuckfield Cosmos in coming runners up to a talented A S Eastbourne side in the Under 11’s League Cup Final. Cosmos battled hard from the start, with MoM George Jeavons in strong form, and took a deserved lead after 25 minutes when Luca Cavalli fired into the roof of the net.

Eastbourne started to cause more problems after the break and midway through the second half they scored twice, giving stand-in keeper Alfie Berry no chance. Cosmos responded well and, after Christopher Dunley was bundled over in the box, Georgie Berry smashed in the penalty to equalise.

With extra-time looming Eastbourne sealed the victory two minutes from the end with a fine goal from their captain Ben Overton.
