The Mid Sussex League, which contains many sides from East Sussex, reports an ‘overwhelming desire’ among clubs to return to action as soon as possible.

Their league will restart on Saturday, April 3, the first weekend on which outdoor sport is permitted.

Nick Stevenson, Rangers’ club secretary and treasurer, said: “The Mid Sussex league is currently in consultation with their member clubs and the county FA in regards to how and when to restart the season safely.

“All of us at Eastbourne Rangers are hoping to be able to get back to playing as soon as possible after the lockdown ends and it is safe to do so within the government guidelines.”

The Mid Sussex League’s larger top two divisions are being split into a top half and bottom half based on results so far, with teams in each half playing the others once more.

And the junior divisions - one to five - will resume their fixture lists and play through to a natural finish.

The restart has been speedily worked out in a series of meetings thanks to a Covid working group set up last year.
