The Badgers faced a mixed start to their season, as they sat in 12th in SCFL Division 1, four points above the relegation zone as the second lockdown kicked in.

Despite this, Seaford were beginning to find some good form in the league, with consecutive wins over Roffey and Oakwood.

Joint-manager Paul Wise admits lockdown came at a bad time for his side, on the back of a heavy defeat.

He said: “Lockdown has been really tough for everyone I imagine. Timing on the pitch wasn’t really ideal, especially after such a poor result in the FA Vase against Steyning.

"One positive has been that it’s given our massive list of injured players a chance to recover”.

This lockdown has left non-league players with the responsibility of keeping themselves fit, with Wise using the element of competition to keep his players healthy.

“We have a players WhatsApp group, which has made it easy to stay in contact with each other," he said. "Plenty of fitness tasks have been put in for the players to complete to stay fit.

"A lot of the lads have been sharing 5 or 10k runs in there which has been good as it adds a bit of competition. Everyone is trying to post the fastest time!”

Wise says he is delighted to be getting back to action, despite fearing another season being disrupted.

He said: “I’m more than delighted to be honest. Saturdays just aren’t the same without football.

There were moments where I did think we could lose another season but both the FA and the SCFL have been brilliant keeping us informed on start dates. If we start thinking the season won’t finish that can only have a negative impact on our performances.

“The plan is to get our season back on track, starting with Hailsham at The Crouch on the 8th. We’ve got 4 really tough games coming up, and finally a squad free of injuries. It’s time to start putting a string of results together.”
