‘The best English centre-backs right now’: Jamie Carragher makes bold claim about Brighton and Hove Albion star

Jamie Carragher has labelled a Brighton and Hove Albion player as one of the best in the country in his position amid the club’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.

At half-time of the semi-final the former Liverpool and England defender posted on social media: “The passing and composure from Brighton’s two central defenders is fantastic. John Stones and Lewis Dunk are the best English CB’s [centre-backs] right now.”

The praise comes following a string of strong performances from Dunk with many urging England boss Gareth Southgate to recall him to the national side.

Dunk has played for England once, with his single appearance coming back in 2018.
