Three late goals fire Lancing to win over Hassocks

Lancing have shown their resilience and never-say-die attitude to recover from losing positions in two league games in a row.

Midweek opponents East Grinstead came to the Go Cardless stadium lying fourth in the SCFL Premier table. They led three times in an entertaining game but Lancing dug deep each time they fell behind and goals from Isaac Brown, Szymon Kowalczyk, and Dylan Hurst rescued a well-deserved point for the Lancers.

Next to visit the Lancers were third placed Hassocks on Saturday and their squad included some familiar faces: Liam Hendy, Lew Finney, Alex Fair and Liam Benson ,all of whom had previously worn the Lancing colours.

The Robins led at half-time with a somewhat scruffy goal, Jack Troak capitalising on Lancing's failure to clear a loose ball in the six-yard box.

Lancing were competing for every ball and making some good inroads down the flanks but the final pass eluded a Lancing attacker and the Robins keeper was hardly tested.

Time was running out... until Archie McGonigle powered home a header in the 85th minute to bring the sides level.

Lancing were not content to sit back and preserve a point and, to the delight of Lancing supporters in the 266 gate, they took the lead through MoM Gabe Robinson, recently having rejoined the Lancers after a spell with Littlehampton.

He left keeper Cooper rooted to the spot as he fired into the roof of the net from outside the box.

Ninety-one minutes had been played but tension mounted as the added time ticked away. The Robins threw everyone forward desperately trying to salvage a point from the game but were caught by a sucker punch .

Lancing cleared a Robins' attack, finding Mo Khedidji completely unmarked midway in the Lancers’ half. He sped goalwards at pace, and the young striker kept his nerve to coolly bury the ball in the bottom corner.

The Lancing supporters let out an enormous roar – and the referee’s whistle came shortly afterwards.

Four points from two games against higher opposition lifted Lancing into 13th place in the table and gave the team a massive confidence boost .The only downside was the sight of Isaac Brown needing assistance to reach the dressing room having sustained an injury to his ankle.

The Lancers visit Bexhill on Saturday.
