VIDEO: Simon Wormull - We lacked quality in our final ball

Crawley Down Gatwick manager Simon Wormull said his side were lacking the quality to score on Saturday despite dominating play.

He pointed to his on-going injury crisis as causing their recent poor form which has seen them concede ten goals within the space of four days.

He said: “It was disappointing today. After the 7-3 defeat on Wednesday it was important we got back on track today and to be honest for 55 minutes I thought we were good value.

“We looked like we were going on to win it. And then we gave away a sloppy penalty and we started to capitulate. They got two more goals and it looked like we got a drubbing which we didn’t.”

Wormull reckons the current spate of injuries to key players has caused the sudden reversal in fortune which has seen them slide down the table from top to sixth.

He said: “We’ve had a lot of injuries to senior players. It’s OK if you’ve got a big squad but when you haven’t a big squad you take a big hit.

“The youngsters come in and do their job but when they’re in for four, five or six games they don’t have the consistency.

“The only difference between the two teams today was that bit of quality in the final ball to score that goal. We dominated play and created chances.”
