IT WAS a very busy term for the staff and pupils in the PE department at Chichester’s Bishop Luffa School.

With five separate teams qualifying as the top ones in Sussex and pupils competing in south of England finals in tennis and cross-country, the action came thick and fast all term.

The Year 11 rugby team won the West Sussex West area tens title and the second squad were runners-up at the same tournament, with only one loss between the two teams. Many of the boys then played in a higher age group as the sixth form team won the under-18 title.

In the full 15-a-side game, Luffa’s first team have reached the semi-finals of the County Cup.

Luffa’s girls claimed the West Sussex West Year 11 and sixth-form netball titles.

In football, the sixth-form, Year 9 and Year 8 teams are doing well in their respective leagues. A series of draws has held up the Year 10 and 11 sides and they are in mid table in the local area schools league.

Having hosted the first round of the national schools’ cross-country cup in October, Luffa went on to win junior and intermediate girls and boys titles in the West Sussex West event. All four squads look forward to the county championships this month.

Luffa’s Year 7 and 8 pupils claimed all four team titles at the area sportshall athletics championships and will represent West Sussex West at the county finals in February.

Looking to inspire the next generation of sporting talent in the Chichester area, Luffa’s Year 10 sports leaders and sixth-form A-level students have taken up the challenge of coaching and leading in the community and now run regular coaching in football, hockey and netball on Friday evenings.
