Thunder exited the National Cup away to lower-division Plymouth Marjon on Sunday and have also had trips to Reading, Manchester and Tees Valley in their opening five matches.

Hildreth said: “It feels like we’ve been given a bit of a bum deal with our fixtures as we’ve played five and four have been away, while other teams have only played twice and both of them have been at home.

“It will be nice to come back home and play in front of our home fans this weekend.

“We had a great crowd, on a Sunday, at home to Team Solent a couple of weeks ago and we’re looking forward to two home games.”

Thunder play two National Trophy Pool 1 games, the first at home to Essex Leopards on Saturday (7.30pm) and they then entertain Bradford Dragons on Sunday (5pm).

Worthing are bottom of the pool after three successive defeats but Hildreth said: “We’re not statistically out of it yet, so it’s important that we keep that in mind in both games.”

Thunder fans will get a first look at new American signing, 6ft 7in forward Rory Spencer, who made his debut at Plymouth. Worthing hope to have another import player signed on for the start of the EBL Division 1 season.
