Spokesman Marcio da Silva said: “We have carefully prepared an exciting new season for you.

“However, due to unforeseen changes in the level of external financial support we have been offered, we need to raise £10,000 in order for the season to go ahead. If we raise this money, then we have been offered significant additional funds (to match this and to extend our financial base) to enable us move forward.

“If we succeed in raising these funds we would be able to proceed with all the concerts as planned, and we would also have enough time to assess our options and build constructively for our 2021-2022 Season.

“Unfortunately if we are not able to raise this amount, then the additional funding will not be forthcoming, and we will have no other option than to suspend our activities until further notice.

“To do this after all that we have achieved in recent years would be a great regret. To do so close on the heels of the amazing response that we received for our Somewhere Over the Rainbow video and after all the work that we have put into planning and preparing for a positive come back season after all the difficulties of this crisis, would be an immense personal and professional disappointment.

“We genuinely and urgently need to ask for your help.

“If you are able to help us by donating any amount, however small, then we would be incredibly grateful. Please write to [email protected]. Alternatively, details of the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra bank account can be found on our website at: http://www.hastingsphilharmonic.com/support-us

“In seven days, we will need to make a decision as to whether or not we are able to go forward with the season.

“Either way, I would like to thank you personally for all the generous support you have given us in previous years.”
