Broadway's Cinderella on the West Sussex stage
The Barn Theatre, Southwick
SO Musical Theatre offers a production of the contemporary Broadway adaptation of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, opening on November 4 at The Barn Theatre, Southwick.
Directed and musically directed by Simon Gray with choreography by Su Galleymore, this production showcases a talented local cast and crew. This version features songs from the original television broadcasts—including In My Own Little Corner, Impossible/It’s Possible and Ten Minutes Ago, alongside a hilarious and romantic libretto by Douglas Carter Beane.
Simon Gray said: “This magical musical brings a fresh, modern twist to the beloved fairy tale, featuring spectacular transformations, unforgettable romance and the classic songs audiences adore.
“We are incredibly proud to bring this beautiful, hilarious and inspiring show to The Barn Theatre. While it features all the nostalgia and gorgeous music of the classic story, this script gives Cinderella more agency and heart. She isn’t just waiting to be saved; she is changing the world around her. It’s a perfect show for families and theatre-lovers of all ages.”
The production features Jennie Duval as Ella (Cinderella), Eden West as Topher (the Prince), and Veronica Brooks as Marie (the Fairy Godmother). Claire Dixon and Su Galleymore play Cinderella’s stepsisters, with Tony Adams as Sebastian, Andy Whitlaw as Lord Pinkleton and Steve Robertson as Jean-Michel. Also Sunny Carter as Madame (the cantankerous Mother).
