Sing Your Heart Out marks ten years with special concert
November 7
Sing Your Heart Out is celebrating a decade of singing with a very special birthday concert at the Selsey Centre on Saturday, November 7.
Everyone is invited to come along and celebrate a decade of song, friendship and community.
Ten years ago, community musician Belinda Gannon, supported by arts charity Arts Dream Selsey, started a choir with a simple idea: to give people with little or no singing experience the chance to have a go.
“The first few members came for all sorts of reasons. Some were coping with bereavement, others were new to Selsey and hoping to make friends, whilst some were living with long-term health conditions.
“What brought them together was singing – and the magic happened!
“Friendships blossomed, confidence grew and harmonies rang out. Today, Sing Your Heart Out is a thriving choir of more than 40 singers, with several original members still going strong.”
Over the years, the choir has performed in several concerts, including two memorable massed-choir events alongside two other local choirs led by Belinda.
“These included singers living with dementia and Alzheimer’s, performing alongside their partners – joyful celebrations of the power of music to bring people together.”
Now it’s time to celebrate.
“Join Sing Your Heart Out at the Selsey Centre on Saturday, November 7 from 3-4.30pm for an afternoon packed with music, memories and birthday cheer.”
Special guests, Open Door Choir, Belinda’s evening choir based at Sidlesham Memorial Hall, will be joining the celebrations.
“Expect favourite songs from the choir’s early days, some brilliant new numbers and plenty of feel-good singing. There’ll be a pay bar and time to celebrate when the singing has finished.
“Our birthday wish? A packed hall! So bring your family, invite your friends, spread the word and come along to help us celebrate ten wonderful years of singing together. You might even find yourself joining in!
“All profits from the concert will go back to Arts Dream Selsey, helping to support and develop the arts in our local community.”
If you fancy joining a choir yourself, new members will be welcome in the New Year (spaces allowing): “Whether you sing in the shower or have never sung a note in public, why not come along, soak up the atmosphere and see what it’s all about? You might just discover your new hobby.”
