Milland History Exhibition to bring the area’s rich past to life

The rich and varied past of Milland and its surrounding villages will be brought to life at the Milland History Exhibition 2026.

Organised by Milland History Group, the two-day exhibition will be open from 10am to 4pm on October 24 and 25, with entry by donation.

Building on the success of last year’s event, the exhibition will feature a range of displays curated by local historians, exploring the people, places and stories that have shaped the area over the centuries.

Visitors will be able to discover more about Milland, Borden Wood, Holly School and the Estate, alongside exhibits covering the Roman Road, the paper mill at Stedham, local churches and Hollycombe Steam.

The exhibition will also welcome a contribution from Liphook History Group, broadening the opportunity for visitors to explore the heritage of neighbouring communities.

Among this year’s highlights will be the developing stories of women in the Chichester district, a subject that is also the focus of a new book due to be published in the spring.

Another intriguing feature is expected to explore the ram, or water system, once used at Shulbred Priory. Visitors may also be able to learn more about the ongoing Hollycombe Estate project, with a possible update on its progress.

As well as offering an insight into the past, the exhibition has become an opportunity for local people to share memories, uncover new information and make unexpected connections with their community’s history.
