'Over two months just to install that' - Readers react to new art installation on Eastbourne seafront
East Sussex County Council announced it will be putting up a new modern installation on Eastbourne seafront and this what readers had to say about it.
Tracey Pownall said: “Unbelievable there's much more important things to be sorted in Eastbourne”

Belbin Jake said: “More modern ugliness.”
Adam Halliburton said: “Personally a very silly place to be put, basically in the middle so no emergency vehicles can get to that area, they put removable bollards in so this can happen and now this will be in the way of that plus the stage for the pop up park. Also, in the way for the bonfire to be taken that way in to town again.”
Ray Burnside said: “If you don't know how valuable art is to people's wellbeing then you really need to do some research.”
Robin Clarke said: “That looks excellent.”
Jon Gwyn said: "Over two months just to install that?”
The artwork will feature eight panels of toughened, coloured glass arranged in a striking zigzag formation. As natural light changes throughout the day, the installation will create beautiful geometric reflections and ever-changing shadows, bringing colour, light and movement to this prominent seafront location.
An East Sussex County Council spokesperson said: “Commissioned by Towner Eastbourne and funded through the UK Government's Levelling Up programme, acclaimed artist Rana Begum will create a vibrant new installation in Victoria Place, at the junction of Grand Parade.
“Installation is expected to be completed by 18 December 2026. We look forward to seeing this exciting new addition take shape and enhance Eastbourne's seafront for residents and visitors alike.”
