Wivelsfield Little Theatre is bringing all the chaos and camaraderie of the First World War to the stage in its latest production, Blackadder Goes Forth.

Written by the brilliant Richard Curtis and Ben Elton, Blackadder Goes Forth remains one of Britain's most beloved comedy series, proving just as hilarious today as when it first aired in 1989. Set amidst the mud and madness of the trenches, this amateur production brings three classic episodes to life: Captain Cook, Major Star and the unforgettable Goodbyeee.
Audiences can look forward to cynical one-liners, outrageous misunderstandings and the wonderfully eccentric characters that helped make the series legendary. Join the scheming Captain Blackadder, the hopelessly dim but fiercely loyal Private Baldrick, the charmingly naïve Lieutenant George, the booming General Melchett, the delightfully twitchy Captain Darling, the not-so-convincing "Bob", and, of course, the ever-busy Field Marshal Haig.

“As a lifelong fan of Blackadder since it first marched onto our television screens in the 1980s, I've always believed its razor-sharp wit, unforgettable characters and timeless humour deserved to be enjoyed live on stage,” says director Nicki Quine. “I'm absolutely thrilled to be making my directorial debut this autumn with Blackadder Goes Forth. We're incredibly fortunate to have assembled a fantastic cast, supported by an outstanding backstage and front-of-house team, all working tirelessly to bring the trenches of the Western Front, and plenty of laughter, to life. Their hard work, dedication and patience deserve medals, although, in true military fashion, they'll probably have to settle for tea and biscuits.”
Wivelsfield Little Theatre's Blackadder Goes Forth runs from Wednesday 11th November to Saturday 14th November, with four evening performances at 7.30pm and a Saturday matinee at 2.30pm. Tickets cost £15 and are available online at www.ticketsource.com/wlt or via the box office on 0333 666 3366.
The performance royalties from every production are donated to Comic Relief, now celebrating its 40th year, a charity championed by Richard Curtis from the very beginning. Hilarious, poignant and unexpectedly moving, Blackadder Goes Forth remains both a timeless comedy and a powerful tribute to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of war.
