One of Britain’s most watched chefs is coming to a village pub. Marcus Wareing, Michelin-starred restaurateur will be at The Horse & Groom in East Ashling on Thursday 15 October.

The evening is the latest in the pub’s Guest Chef Series. Wareing will be interviewed, then a five-course dinner will be cooked under his watch by head chef Luke Cockram. Guests should expect a lively conversation, not a polite Q&A.
He first worked alongside Gordon Ramsay at Le Gavroche, the Roux family’s restaurant. There is a neat twist for East Ashling: Michel Roux Jr cooked in the same dining room earlier this year. The talk is also likely to take in the well-known split with Ramsay over Wareing’s restaurant at The Berkeley, and how that fight to put his own name above the door led him onto television, as a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals.

The menu will be classical French cooking, made with locally produced ingredients, served in the relaxed dining room of a 17th-century pub. It follows earlier Guest Chef nights with Thomasina Miers, Rowley Leigh and Michel Roux Jr over the last 12 months
John Ayton, owner of The Horse & Groom, said: “It is quite unique for a village pub to have someone of Marcus’s standing cooking and talking on the same night. Guests will have a special evening in his company, eating a menu he has created with Luke, here in East Ashling.”
