With an early start on Saturday and Sunday mornings, the large crowd of supporters and spectators, fuelled by delicious snacks prepared by some of our ladies, enjoyed a feast of finals entertainment.

Saturday's highlight was the plucky fight back by veteran bowler, Chris Bascombe, against canny Joe Smith (resident Pro at the Selsey Golf Club next door) to reach 20 - 20 in the Mens Singles. In a nail biting final end, Joe held his nerve to take the title with two superb draw shots onto the jack in the deciding end.

Other results on Saturday were:

  • Ladies Pairs - Winners and Champions: Lesley Godfrey and Denise Wadham.

  • Mens Yardstick: John Bowes (Champion) (16) beat Kevin Fielder (12).

  • Mixed Aussie Pairs - Winners and Champions: John Bowes and Anne Croxford.

Sunday morning's  matches, under a clear blue sky, began with an exciting game in the Mens Pairs in which the final score belied how close and intense the match actually was.

Result: Barry Fuller and Mark Fitz (Champions) (25) beat Neil Butler and Terry Brazier (15).

This was followed by the Ladies Yardstick with Anne Croxford, trying to retain her 2025 Title, being narrowly beaten by her old rival Denise Wadham.

Result: Denise Wadham (Champion) (19) beat Anne Croxford (13).

Next up was the Ladies Pairs, another exciting match, eventually won by Lesley Godfrey and her partner Karen Zealand.

The day's excitement ended with the long awaited Mens Club Championship Final between last year's Champ, John Bowes, and the 2024 Champ, Barry Fuller, who both entertained the crowd with some excellent bowling.

Eventually, in a tough match, Barry proved too strong for John, and Barry walked away with the 2026 Title of Mens Club Champion.
It is pleasing to see some new names on our clubhouse Honours Boards this year, reflecting the overall depth of the strength of our bowlers.

With a full program of friendlies and roll ups still to come, right through to the end of our season in October, our very sociable club continues to offer a warm welcome to new members.
