Cheers! Littlehampton care home opens pub for residents

The news regarding pubs across the country may seem bleak, with more and more shutting down each year. However, at Norden House Care Home, a new pub has just opened. The Norden Inn, a special Friday night service for residents and their families to enjoy.

This idea came about as there had been quite a few comments from residents at the home regarding their love of pub life and how much they used to enjoy going. Upon hearing this, staff at Norden started to put together plans to launch a mini pub each Friday night, at the home, to bring the entertainment to them.

Residents have delivered nothing but constant praise and excitement, for Ian it’s always marked in his calendar as something to look forward to each week “I always look forward to Fridays now.”. Whereas another individual jubilantly stated, “It is better than an actual pub, more fun!”.

Staff at Norden have pulled out all the stops to make the evening feel just like the real thing. They offer a wide selection of beverages from prosecco, white and rose wine, to non-alcoholic options such as Guinness 0.0, Heineken 0.0 and soft drinks like juice and lemonade. Coupled with a range of traditional snacks; crisps, peanuts and biscuits – because who doesn’t love a Friday night biscuit.

What truly brings the evening to life though is the music box which gets everyone up on their feet. Ella, an activities coordinator at Norden, recalls her most memorable moment at the Inn “ABBA came on and everyone was up dancing and singing. It was so much fun that no one wanted to leave.”. It is moments like this one that make the Norden Inn such a wonderful success and a staple of the week for residents and staff alike. The team will continue to look into more ideas for the Inn in the coming months, as this fantastic initiative keeps growing and putting more smiles on the faces of their residents.
