The Town Council’s Communities Committee has recommended part-funding the next Stand Proud in Hailsham event, subject to approval by Full Council at its meeting in November.

The fourth Stand Proud in Hailsham event, known as the Stand Proud Festival, is scheduled to take place at the White Hart in Horsebridge on Saturday 26 June 2027, from 12.30pm to 11pm. The event will coincide with Pride Month and celebrate diversity, inclusivity and solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community.
The proposed part-funding would help support the co-organisers in delivering another community event that promotes acceptance, visibility and a sense of belonging for LGBTQ+ people and their allies.
Previous Stand Proud in Hailsham events have brought people together to celebrate equality, encourage understanding and help foster an inclusive community. The forthcoming festival aims to build on the success of these earlier events, continuing to provide a welcoming space for people to come together in a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Entertainment and activities for the 2027 event are still to be confirmed, with further announcements expected as planning progresses.
Co-organiser Mary Laxton said: "Stand Proud in Hailsham is about making sure everyone feels welcome, valued and able to be themselves. Each event has helped bring people together, raise awareness and show the importance of acceptance within our community. We are looking forward to building on what has been achieved so far and making the fourth festival another positive and memorable occasion."
Co-organiser Colin Mitchell added: "The support and enthusiasm shown at previous Stand Proud events has demonstrated how much a celebration of diversity and inclusion can mean to local people. We want the 2027 festival to continue that momentum, bringing together the LGBTQ+ community, friends, families and allies for an enjoyable event that celebrates what makes Hailsham such a diverse and welcoming place."
Cllr Anne Marie Ricketts, Chair of Hailsham Town Council's Communities Committee, said: "Stand Proud in Hailsham has an important role in promoting understanding, respect and inclusivity across our community. The Communities Committee recognises the value of events that bring people together and celebrate diversity."
"While the proposed contribution remains subject to Full Council approval, we are pleased to support the recommendation and look forward to the Council considering the proposal at its November meeting."
Further information about the Stand Proud Festival, including confirmed entertainment, activities and arrangements, will be announced in due course subject to ongoing event planning.
