Chichester & Fishbourne Croquet Club entertained Lodsworth on their Fishbourne lawns which are making a strong recovery from the summer’s drought conditions and enjoyed a match victory that included intensely fought and yet fun games.
Statistically, using the croquet handicap system gives players of different experience and ability an equal chance of success and so it proved.
Leading his side to victory Chichester’s captain, Tony Elkin, was the only player to win all his games. Among some amazing play by all, Richard Givan of Lodsworth hit a splendid jump shot that sailed though the hoop and travelled well toward the next hoop to be run – shot of the day.
Chichester ran out the day’s champions by the winning score of 5 games to 3.
