September 6th started dry and dull.  A small group from the Lewes Footpaths Group met in Lewes, to drive, in a surprise change to the published programme, to the village of Hadlow Down.  Here we met fellow walkers from the Plumpton and District Footpaths Society.

After parking in School Lane, we headed off, along the footpath to the church, and around the burial ground. Crossing the A272, we walked through Waste Wood, and on to Warren Farm.  From here we turned off the main bridleway, along the edge of woodland. We glimpse views through the trees of open farmland and we stopped to admire amazing tree roots and the wonder of nature.  The sun was shining too!

After crossing a stile, we found a sunny spot, with shade for those who wanted it, and had a refreshments break. Continuing on our route, we soon reached Shepherd’s Hill.  Here, we walked up a winding lane towards Pound Green Lane. After again crossing the A272, we headed down Spotted Cow Lane, taking the footpath through to Howbourne Lane.  When the road ran out, we turned onto a footpath, over a footbridge and continued uphill though woods.  At Smallberry Hill, we crossed into Stocklands Lane and eventually turned onto the bridleway which led us back to School Lane.

 Anita led the walk.
