Care UK’s Bowes House, on Battle Road, teamed up with visitors from Hellingly Scouts to take part in a special games night, bringing different generations together to rediscover the pleasure of playing games together.

Throughout the afternoon, residents and their young competitors took part in a variety of games such as Connect 4, Scrabble and many more. The residents were delighted to see that some of the scouts even brought their own homemade game to play with the residents, with plenty of friendly rivalry and laughter along the way.

Resident Colin Clark said: "I enjoyed hearing about the scouts club and what they do in the day, and I liked playing Connect 4 the most! My favourite game is musical bingo as I enjoy music so much."

The event was part of Care UK’s ‘Bored Games’ initiative – a nationwide campaign intended to revive the magic of family and community games nights. At a time when social media and online gaming has transformed how people spend their leisure time, the initiative is celebrating the simple joys of spending time together playing traditional board games and the memories they can create.

From community events and intergenerational activities, Care UK care homes across the UK are celebrating togetherness and reconnecting residents with the games that shaped their younger years.

Finlin Martin, Home Manager at Bowes House, said: “We know how powerful games can be in bringing people together, creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect, and to share their favourite games and cherished memories.

“Whether it's discovering a new game, enjoying a bit of friendly competition or reminiscing about games played with friends and family, these moments help spark meaningful conversations, laughter and joy across generations.

“We’re delighted to have welcomed Hellingly Scouts and would love to thank them for helping to make the event such a wonderful occasion for everyone involved.”
