ALL SAINTS’ DAY service of reflection and Holy Communion was held last Sunday at All Saints with St Nicolas Church Icklesham.  This service was led by the rector Nathaniel in  the morning sun brightly delineated in the stained glass window.   The theme of sainthood was an encouraging reminder that all are saints who believe in God and His son Jesus Christ and serve Him faithfully.  A saint is a child of God and, “The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him” (1 John 3:13)  Even so, as the Psalmist writes “but those that seek the Lord lack nothing that is good” (Psalm 34:10) and all should seek him while he may be found and call upon him while he is near (Isaiah 55:6)  The popular hymn sung for the occasion was “For all the saints who from their labours rest, who thee by faith before the world confessed, thy name O Jesus, be forever blest”, and with  adherence to the causal spiritual battle: “O may thy soldiers, faithful true and bold, fight as the saints who nobly fought of old and win, with them, the victor’s crown of gold”.    The service ended with a time of fellowship and refreshments in the historic grandeur of Icklesham’s Church.

WRA Annual General Meeting will be in the New Hall this Saturday November 7th at 11.30am until 1pm. This is later than usual to allow time for the Church Market. The Clerk at Icklesham PC, Jenner Sands, is speaking on her role and how the Council supports the local area. Adam Hart will introduce Neighbourhood Watch and the planned meeting with the new PCSO. WRA will also be giving more detailed information on the current scale of traffic using the High Street. The meeting is an opportunity to raise questions and comments on local issues that are important to you.

2nd WEDNESDAY MEETING will take place on November 11th in the New Hall at 2 for 2.30pm.    This month’s talk has the enigmatic title of:  “The Chevalier d’Eon and the tradition of women who passed as men”  and is given by historian Dr Stephen Brogan.  The Chevalier d’Eon (1728-1810) was a French diplomat, soldier, author, spy blackmailer and fencer who lived the second half of his life as a woman.  Dr Brogan will be discussing why this is plausible.  Admission for non-members is £5 and the tea following the talk is £2 per person.
