Proms lets choir shine

THE second Battle of Hastings Proms was a triumph as Roger Wilcock brought the very best out of his 150-strong community choir at a packed out marquee on Thursday night.

Locals of all ages had turned out in force for the event and were treated to a splendid spectacle.

Highlights included a brilliant instrumental version of Bohemia Rhapsody, some excellent songs from the musicals including My Fair Lady and Les Miserables, a sublime Nessun Dorma from the male voice section of the choir - so good they sung it twice - and a flag-waving finale complete with Jerusalem, Sussex by the Sea and Land of Hope and Glory, which had the crowds on their feet singing their hearts out.

Already it feels like a Hastings institution, the only challenge for Roger and his charges - how do you top that?
