Hide AdFracking - or hydraulic fracturing - is a technique in which water and chemicals are pumped into shale rock at high pressure to extract gas.

However, anti-fracking campaigners Frack Free Lancashire claim the process is harmful to the environment.
Any decision made will have ramifications for other areas across the UK.
Concerns over fracking in Sussex have led to protest groups being formed and major protests were held in the Mid Sussex village of Balcombe in 2013 when oil company Cuadrilla attempted to drill a well to test for oil.
