Brighton's XI at Getafe predicted: A huge Pascal Gross decision for Fabian Hurzeler

Uefa Conference League: Getafe vs Brighton from the Estadio Coliseum - Thursday, 8pm

Brighton have a number of selection headscratchers ahead of their Uefa Conference League clash at Getafe.

The Seagulls are in Madrid looking for their first away win in the tournament but also have a tough Premier League fixture against Brentford at the Amex Stadium on Sunday.

Head coach Fabian Hurzeler will carefully manage the energy levels of his squad, including a big call on veteran midfielder Pascal Gross. The 35-year-old has started every match this season and also took a whack to the foot at the end of Saturday’s 1-0 win at Manchester City.

"We expect a tough opponent," said Hurzeler. "Because I think when you play here in Getafe and when you see them playing also, for example, at the weekend against Sevilla, you know it's a team that knows how to win.

"It's a team that plays quite vertical, long balls, second balls, [who are] good in personal duels, and can be very intense in personal duels.

"Therefore, we expect a team that has a clear style of play combined with individual quality."

Here's how the Seagulls could line up against Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum

Brighton’s likely XI

Bart Verbruggen - GK: The Dutchman was superb in the 1-0 win at Manchester City and will look to keep another clean sheet in Madrid. He dismissed links of a potential move to La Liga ahead of the Getafe match and said he’s happy at Brighton. Hooray!

Costinha - RB: A tough choice here as ideally he needs a rest after back to back 90 minutes against City and a potential match against Brentford on Sunday. Mats Wieffer is ineligible for the Conference League stage and Kadioglu is sidelined with a hip issue.

Michael Svoboda - CB: The Austrian has impressed during his time on the pitch and expect him to get another start at centre back tonight. Lewis Dunk and Luka Vuskovic - both superb at City - could be rested with Brentford in mind.

Olivier Boscagli - CB: The Frenchman could be back in his preferred position of left sided centre back. Seems to struggle a little at left back.

Jaouen Hadjam - LB: The French-born Algerian has made a positive impact to the squad since arriving from Swiss club Young Boys. Another very shrewd signing.

Pascal Gross - CM: Of course he plays, it’s Pascal Gross. He probably does need a rest though and the 35-year-old took a whack to the foot at the end of the City match. Interesting decision here and Malick Yalcouye could also be an option.

Chema Andres - CM: Yasin Ayari (or Gross) may get a rest here but I expect Chema to start in midfield in his home City of Madrid. He’s made a brilliant start to his Albion career.

Diego Gomez - RW: Zadok Yohanna is getting fitter but I expect Gomez to start this one with Yankuba Minteh (ineligible for Conference League) a likely starter on the right against Brentford on Sunday.

Jack Hinshelwood - No 10: The academy graduate will likely be a starter in the No 10 as he gets back to his best after injury.

Ibrahim Osman - LW: The flying winger could get another chance to impress on the left flank but once again, Yalcouye is an option here too. Kaoru Mitoma remains injured.

Georginio - CF: The Frenchman impressed from the bench at City and should lead the line ahead of Premier League regular Charalampos Kostoulas.
