Horsham shopping centre bosses announce Carfax Mall reopening as roof works continue
Horsham’s Swan Walk shopping centre has announced that its Carfax Mall is now open, giving people access to a further section of the centre for the first time since mid-July.
Swan Walk has been shut since Monday, July 13, after a roof panel fell from the building.
Nobody was injured, but the centre was closed as a precaution, while investigations continued into the incident.
A select number of stores reopened on the weekend of August 1.
A proposed netting solution was then approved on August 4, which would allow the shopping centre to safely reopen.
Swan Walk confirmed the netting solution had now been delivered – and installation work had begun.
The shopping centre said the netting will be installed ‘in stages’, which would allow Swan Walk to gradually reopen from next week.
Swan Walk’s Facebook post, on Tuesday (September 1), read: “We are pleased to announce that the Carfax Mall is now open, from our Carfax entrance down to the Next and TG Jones area.
"As work continues, we will share details on subsequent phases and timings as soon as possible. Please keep an eye on our website and social channels for further information and updated store guides.”
The update means a number of businesses affected by the prolonged closure can now welcome customers back into their usual premises.
Swan Walk said further details about the next stages of the reopening would be announced as work continues.
A spokesperson added: “Please keep an eye on our website https://swanwalkshopping.co.uk/ and social channels for further information and updated store guides.
“In the meantime, we would like to again thank our tenants, their staff, visitors to the centre along with our town centre partners for their continued support throughout this time.
“We look forward to sharing further timeline updates and details of our reopening event which is planned for the first weekend of full centre opening.”
