New independent shop bringing ‘magic’ back to Hastings high street

A new independent shop described as a ‘treasure-filled grotto’ is set to open in Hastings.

The Crooked Crown will hold its grand opening – on Queens Road – on Saturday, September 12, from 10am to 6pm.

The business has been created by Johnpeter Corrigan-Denyer, who hopes the shop can help bring back some of the excitement and discovery associated with traditional high street shopping.

The Crooked Crown combines floristry with a range of gifts and other items, including jewellery, scarves, prints and curiosities.

Its floristry offering includes bouquets, bespoke arrangements, wedding flowers and funeral tributes, as well as flowers for other special occasions.

Johnpeter said the shop had been created to be ‘an experience, not just another shop’.

He said: “At a time when our high streets are facing enormous challenges, The Crooked Crown is proud to be opening its doors as a new, proudly independent Hastings business – created with the belief that our high streets can still be places of wonder, imagination, beauty and discovery.”

The shop is intended to offer customers the chance to browse its range of products alongside its floristry services.

Johnpeter added: “[It will be] a place where you can wander beneath the branches, discover something unexpected around every corner and hopefully rediscover a little of the excitement that shopping on the high street once held.”

The business is encouraging local people to visit, meet the team and explore the new shop.

Johnpeter said: “Supporting independent businesses really does help keep the magic alive on our high streets.”
