New Indian restaurant Akoka brings fresh grab-and-go dining to Chichester high street

A new Indian restaurant has opened on South Street this month, introducing a novel dining concept aimed at busy office workers and shoppers.

Owners Kamal Singh and Guru Seagal say Akoka offers Chichester residents a fast alternative to the traditional restaurant experience, serving freshly prepared Indian food that can be enjoyed in-house or on-the-go.

Seagal said: “Akoka is designed for everyone who works in the office and has a very small break. Usually you go to a restaurant, you order an item, and then you have to wait for the order to come. Whereas Akoka offers you to come, pick your box, and go enjoy your lunch.”

Describing the restaurant as “a new generation of Indian kitchens,” the business partners explained how they spent two years researching customer preferences to identify the three most popular bases, eight favourite mains and six best-selling starters.

Seagal said: “We decided to bring that on board and create three boxes depending on how hungry you are and how much of a range you want to put in your box.”

Priced between £9.95 and £14.95, these boxes can be customised with a choice of rice or noodles, chicken dishes, vegetarian and vegan mains, and a selection of Pan-Asian starters.

Singh and Seagal also say their food is made using fresh ingredients, natural colourings and natural flavourings.

The restaurant, which is open from 11am to 9pm, has already received positive feedback from customers.

Steve Tapner, a resident for 64 years, said: “I’ve lived here in Chichester all my life. This is the best new place I’ve found. The flavours, the service - everything was unbelievable.”

With its focus on fresh, natural food served quickly, Singh and Seagal hope Akoka will offer a new lunch and dinner option for people working in and around Chichester city centre.

Singh said: “If you work 9-5 and you get a half an hour or 45 minute break, give us a chance, we’ll get your box ready, and we’ll hand it over to you.”
