Hornbeam Properties has applied to Mid Sussex District Council through its agent Savills to convert Sussex House in Perrymount Road into 20 flats.
The application was received on Thursday, May 2, and people can view it at pa.midsussex.gov.uk/online-applications using the reference DM/24/1111. It hopes to change the use of the building from office (Class E) to residential (Class C3).

The covering letter said: “Given that the current access arrangements are proposed to be maintained, it is considered that safe site access can be ensured in this instance.”
It continued: “The submitted Transport Statement shows that the proposed residential use will generate significantly fewer two-way trips compared to the existing office use. The proposal also includes 30 off-street parking spaces and 14 cycle parking spaces within a communal store, both provided within the existing parking area.”
Savills’ covering letter said Sussex House is a two-storey office building, adding that the application aims to covert it into 12 two-bedroom flats and eight three-bedroom flats. It said an Internal Daylight and Sunlight Report shows that all proposed rooms will meet BRE guidelines ‘in terms of daylight’ with ‘adequate natural light’ provided for future occupiers of the flats.

It added: “There are footways on both sides of Perrymount Road between Commercial Square roundabout and B2272 South Road, which provide good pedestrian connectivity to key local facilities, local bus stops adjacent to the site access and the railway station.” There is also a controlled Puffin Crossing nearby to the south of the site access, as well as pedestrian crossings to the south of Clair Road.
