News From Battle Town Council

Residents in Battle are being invited to attend Battle’s Parish Assembly, an evening focused on volunteering opportunities, community updates, discussion and local involvement. Chair of Council, Cllr Barton said:
“In preparation for the upcoming Battle Parish Assembly, every household in Battle should now have received a copy of the 2025/26 Annual Report. As well as outlining the Town Council’s achievements, the report invites residents to attend the Parish Assembly. Together, the report and the Assembly provide an opportunity to reflect on the past year and to shape what comes next. The Assembly is open to all topics, giving residents the chance to raise and discuss any issues affecting the town.”
The event will take place from 6pm, beginning with informal networking and refreshments provided by Saxonwood WI, followed by the formal meeting at 7pm.
The Assembly will include a range of presentations on local issues and initiatives, including natural flood management in Battle, the launch of the new Battle Pantry providing affordable food support, an update on ‘Devolution’ from the Town Council’s Task and Finish Group. There will also be reports from East Sussex County Council, Rother District Council and Sussex Police.
The evening will begin with the presentation of Battle’s Community Award by Town Mayor Dr Andrew Barton and will include a short contribution from the Battle Youth Forum. Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions and take part in discussions on matters affecting the town.
Residents are encouraged to attend the Parish Assembly to find out more, raise concerns and take part in shaping the future of the town. Residents are also encouraged to submit questions in advance of the meeting. Questions and suggestions for discussion should be sent by Monday 20 April, allowing time for responses to be prepared. Submissions can be made by email to [email protected] or by telephone on 01424 772210.
Lighting Concerns Raised
With the change to British Summer Time, streetlights operated by Battle Town Council will automatically adjust to summer timings, although this can take a few days to take effect.
The Council has also clarified that it is responsible primarily for lighting in residential areas. Locations such as Market Road, Market Square, and main routes such as High Street, Lower Lake and Upper Lake fall outside its control, and should be reported to East Sussex Highways at 0345 608 0193 or via their website.
Battle in Bloom Relaunched for 2026
Battle in Bloom returns this year with a refreshed format designed to make it easier for residents to take part.
New categories have been introduced, including a spring competition celebrating early blooms, alongside a wide range of summer categories covering businesses, community spaces, schools and private gardens.
The entry process has also been simplified, with participants able to submit entries online along with a short video of their garden.
Entries for the spring competition close on 30 April, with summer entries closing on 3 July, and an awards evening planned for 16 July at the Almonry. For more information visit https://battletowncouncil.gov.uk/community/battle-in-bloom
