Torchlit procession, ancient songs and festive favourites planned for Horsham concert
A torchlit procession will lead audiences to St Mary’s Church in Horsham, for a concert celebrating the Mediaeval Baebes’ 30th anniversary.
The vocal ensemble will perform on Friday, December 18, as part of its anniversary tour, combining harmonies, historical instruments and storytelling.
The procession will begin at 6.55pm from The Causeway, with families, musicians and re-enactors invited to take part.
“Dress in costume, carry a lantern, bring a drum, or simply watch as the procession makes its way into the venue,” organisers said.

Inside the church, the concert will feature music from the group’s latest album, The Spinning Wheel, alongside festive songs and favourites from its repertoire.
The album’s 12 songs are inspired by the months of the year, combining ancient texts with new melodies and exploring seasonal customs, romance, nature and the passage of time.
Organisers described the anniversary programme as a ‘concert that honours the music that has defined them’, while also ‘embracing the next chapter of their story’.
Formed in 1996 by musical director and composer Katharine Blake, the Mediaeval Baebes have released 12 studio albums and toured internationally.

Their performances have taken them to cathedrals, castles and caves, as well as the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid Stage. They have also toured with Jools Holland and contributed to television soundtracks, including the BBC’s The Virgin Queen and ITV’s Victoria.
The Horsham event will bring together music from across the ensemble’s three decades of performing, with the procession providing a seasonal opening to the evening.
