Horsham pub named among the UK’s 10 worst-rated Wetherspoons
A Horsham pub is among the 10 lowest-rated Wetherspoons in the UK, according to a study of 1,956,362 Google reviews by leading UK mobile bar hire company Spin and Shake.
The Lynd Cross on Springfield Road averages 3.67 stars from 1,511 Google reviews, which makes it 10th-lowest in the UK, and 166 of those reviews are one-star.
Spin and Shake read 80 of its 166 one-star reviews, and of the 44 that left a comment, 11 (25 per cent) said the food was cold or poor, 11 (25 per cent) complained about long waits and 10 (23 per cent) said staff were rude or unhelpful.
One one-star review of The Lynd Cross, from August 2025, read: “Crumbs all over the seats and empty glasses everywhere.”

Another one-star review, from January 2026, stated: “Waited 45 minutes for boyfriends food to arrive.”
Sussex has 20 Wetherspoons in the ranking and they average 3.94, which is below the UK average of 4.04, and only five of the 20 score above that average.
The Bright Helm in Brighton averages 3.68 and sits just outside the UK's 10 lowest-rated, while The Picture Playhouse in Bexhill is the best-rated in the county on 4.32 and sits just outside the 10 best.
The Lynd Cross was named the UK’s 10th-worst Wetherspoons pub, with a rating of 3.67 stars from 1,511 reviews.
Most common complaints in the one-star reviews read: cold or poor food and long waits (11 each of 44 with a comment)
A one-star review in December 2025 said: “Ordered drinks on the app which took over 40 minutes to arrive with no apology.”
A spokesperson for Wetherspoons said: “The Google review summary for the Lynd Cross in Horsham says that reviewers consistently praise this pub for its pleasant atmosphere, good value food and drinks, and friendly service.
“Where there are some unfavourable reviews, bringing the average down, we will try very hard, as always, to remedy any faults on a case-by-case basis.”
The Emersons Green in Bristol was named the worst Wetherspoons pub in the UK, with a rating of 2.79 stars from 313 reviews, ahead of Coombe Lodge, Croydon – 3.12 stars from 381 reviews – and The Five Stones in Filey, North Yorkshire – 3.28 stars from 178 reviews.
Walham Green in Fulham was named the best Wetherspoons pub in the UK, with a rating of 4.60 stars from 474 reviews, ahead of The Sir Alexander Fleming, Paddington – 4.44 stars from 481 reviews – and The Bishop Blaize, Stretford – 4.39 stars from 2,890 reviews.
Averages are out of five stars and rounded to two decimal places. Where two pubs show the same figure, the order comes from the unrounded average.
Bryan Levato, director of Spin and Shake, said: “Wetherspoons is about as consistent as a pub chain gets, with the same menu, the same prices and the same app wherever you go, so you'd expect the reviews to look much the same too, but they really don't.
“At the bottom it's the same complaints again and again, which are long waits at the bar, food going cold and tables that haven't been cleared.
“Google is usually the first thing people check when they're deciding where to go for a drink, so those stars really matter, and nothing earns them faster than a friendly welcome and a drink in your hand without a long wait.”
Spin and Shake pulled the Google Maps listing for every Wetherspoons in the UK on October 2, 2026, including its Lloyds No.1 bars, its hotels and its pubs in airports, railway stations and holiday parks, and ranked the 793 that were open and had at least 100 reviews, 1,956,362 reviews in all.
Each pub was ranked on its exact average, worked out from its number of one, two, three, four and five-star reviews rather than the rounded score Google shows, and where two pubs had the same average, the one with the bigger share of one-star reviews ranked lower.
One holiday park pub where most of the reviews were written before it became a Wetherspoons was left out, and every pub named here was checked against its live Google listing on October 8, 2026.
The average pub in the ranking scores 4.04 stars.
Review comments were sorted by what they mentioned, for example food described as cold or undercooked, or a wait for food, drinks or a table, and a comment can mention more than one thing.
Where a pub had more reviews than could be read in full, its most recent reviews or a sample of its one-star reviews were read instead.
