Lucy is in year 5 and the competition was open to all the children in the school, from reception class to year 6.

Her winning design included a picture of a yellow car, a tortoise and a snail clear signs that would get the safe driving message across. The posters are now displayed on signposts at the top and bottom of Central Avenue and Telscombe Cliffs Way.

Mum Karen was pleased for her daughter. She said: we saw the signs as we were driving to school one day and Lucy shouted out, That s my picture! Obviously, I m really proud of her.

Val Busher, the school nurse, arranged the competition with Stephen Reed from Aspen Lewes, consultants for the Peacehaven Safe Routes to School scheme.
