A27 closed in Sompting due to van collision

The A27 was closed in Sompting due to a collision.

The ambulance service said they were called at 2.45pm today (June 5) to a collision involving a van and a motorcycle on Upper Brighton Road in Sompting at the junction with Busticle Lane.

The air ambulance was also called to the scene, and landed in a nearby field.

Once the crews got to the scene, the motorcyclist was assessed by paramedics before being taken to Worthing Hospital for further treatment.

As it was not needed, the air ambulance was stood down.

Sussex Police was also at the scene to close part of the road following the accident.

A spokesman described it as a minor injury road traffic collision and that the road was open again as of 4pm.

It is not linked to the large fire at a nearby industrial estate in Lancing, which has also led to road closures in the immediate vicinity.

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “While making their way to the fire in Lancing, officers from our Technical Rescue Unit came across a road traffic collision involving a motorcyclist and another vehicle at around 2.45pm on the A27 near Sompting.

"The officers administered first aid to the rider of the motorcycle, and he was left in the care of paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.”
