Atlanticus promise organ jazz in Shoreham

Shoreham date

Atlanticus promise organ jazz with a dynamic transatlantic sound at the Ropetackle Arts Centre, Shoreham on Saturday, August 1 at 8pm.

A spokesman said: “Atlanticus are a dynamic British-American jazz quartet bringing together the distinctive sounds of US saxophonist Peter Fraize and Brighton-based musicians Terry Seabrook (organ), Jack Kendon (trumpet) and Milo Fell (drums).

“Combining deep respect for jazz heritage with a forward-looking creative spirit, the group delivers a powerful new perspective on the celebrated tradition of Hammond organ jazz, inspired by the legendary organ groups of the past, including Larry Young’s groundbreaking Unity album, and influenced by contemporary innovators such as Larry Goldings.

“Atlanticus creates a modern sound rooted in groove, improvisation and exploration. The quartet’s repertoire features original compositions spanning hard-bop, jazz, funk, Afro-Cuban rhythms, Brazilian influences and the blues.

“Since forming for their first UK tour in 2016, the group has built a reputation for high-energy performances and a unique musical chemistry that reflects the strong transatlantic connection at their heart of the band. They’ve toured across the UK and US East Coast, appearing at renowned venues and festivals including Ronnie Scott’s, Keystone Korner and Love Supreme.

“For one half of the show, Atlanticus will perform Oceanic, a five-part, Arts Council-supported multimedia suite celebrating and exploring our relationship with the oceans.”

Terry said: “We are a group with members on each side of the big pond. Hence our name. And we’ve been drawn to the idea of featuring oceans and rivers in our music titles from Blue Haven (our first album) to Upstream (our second album). Three of us live by the sea in Brighton.

“We hope Oceanic will inspire people to join in the quest to respect, protect and sustain the earth’s five Oceans.”
