Bognor people can be leaders

Free lessons in leadership are being offered to people living in Bognor Regis.

The Bognor Community Action Network (CAN) is offering an open college network accredited programme of leadership.

The sessions, which start in October, will run for 11 weeks and give individuals the skills they need to champion local projects.

Carol Fullick from Bognor CAN said: "As community leaders, our voice will make positive changes in the planning of future services. We need happier, safer, cleaner communities."

She added: "By becoming a community leader you will be able to ensure the community's voices are heard and differences are made."

The programme is open to anyone who wants to take an active role in their community, or in a voluntary organisation in the Bognor area.

After training, participants will be offered a mentor for up to a year, to support them in their new leadership role.

Participants who successfully complete the course will be able to put into practice new leadership styles and use their advanced knowledge to develop good working relationships and strategic planning skills.

Mrs Fullick said: "This course offers an ideal opportunity for people to gain the skills that will not only help them take up this challenge and make a difference in their communities, but could also be of benefit when looking for employment."
