I have received a message from Andrew Burchett the Tower Captain who wishes to convey a big thank you to all who made generous donations towards the clock repair. The clock was taken to pieces and transported to Bletchingley, Surrey on 4 September, there it was to be re-assembled and overhauled. The work should take from 4 – 6 weeks to be completed so it is hoped that the clock will be back and striking out once more by the end of October. It just shows what we can achieve when we pull together.

Friday 25 October In Brede Village Hall the Brede Farmers Market will be open from 10am – 12pm. Many people take advantage of this village amenity not only to buy food and products but also to sit and have a chat over a cup of coffee. Short Mat Bowls is at 7.30pm. Hopefully there will be Post Office Services in Broad Oak General store from 11am –1.00pm some people went last week and found the lady was not there. 7.30pm find your best witches and wizards clothes for the Halloween Fancy Dress Party at the Rainbow Trout with live music from the Dead Rabbits. Also at 7.30pm Short Mat Bowls will take place in the Village Hall, they would like more members, so don’t be shy if you think you have an eye that can send a ball straight along a carpet to hit the jack then think no more go along and find out.

Saturday 26 October In St Mary’s Community Hall (Udimore) at 3pm, Be prepared to have a laugh and learn about things past as Dickie Dengate gives a talk about reflections of a farming life, this will be followed by tea and delicious cakes. This evening sees Staplecross hosting a torchlit procession, which will go from the Cross Inn in the Village at 7.15 to Cripps Corner then return for the lighting of the Bonfire at 8.30pm, which will be followed by a Grand Firework Display at 9pm, which in past years has been fantastic. Cost is £1 entry. Many of them are requesting that no one takes their own fireworks for safety reasons. I hope the evenings stay dry for all of them.

At any bonfire event over the next few weeks take care and have a great time. Sunday 27 October at St Georges Brede there will be a sung Eucharist at 9.30am followed by coffee. At the Trinity Methodist Church the service will be conducted by the Reverend Peggy Heim. I will also draw attention to the Circuit Lunch Club they will be meeting at Bannatyne Spa at 12.30pm.
