The monthly quiz evening at the Pavilion in Burwash Common is being held this evening. Kick off is at 8pm and teams of six players are invited to go along. the licenced bar will be open.

The Autumnal clearance of St Bartholomew’s Churchyard will take place tomorrow (Saturday) from 9am. Volunteers are invited to go along and give a hand, taking along what equipment you can to tackle the brambles, leaves etc. There are all kinds of jobs need doing, some not quite so strenuous as others.

Also tomorrow the Short mat bowls club invite you to enter their fun general knowledge quiz. Teams of six players at £6 per person to include supper will go up against each other and our great quiz masters Terry Parker & Steve Bennett. Guests are invited to bring along their own drinks. Call Mary Taylor to book your team in, it isn’t too late.

The annual Royal British Legion Remembrance Parade & Service will take place on Sunday. The parade will leave the Bear car park at 10.40am to the war memorial where wreaths will be laid at 11am. A service of remembrance in St Bartholomew’s church will follow this. They will then parade back to the car park and fall out.

On Monday morning there will be a minutes silence at the memorial. In the evening there annual RBL dinner will take place at the Bear Inn. To book your place you need to contact Steve Mintram with your choice of menu. Three courses £20 per person. Raffle prizes would be gratefully received.

The Burwash Common After Eight club will meet on Tuesday from 7.30pm. in the Pavilion. Their speaker will be Betty McBride who will be giving a talk on The Power of brands. The club have received a letter from Demelza thanking them for the donation from the quiz evening in September. Call Jan McCartney to find out more about this club and how to join.

On Wednesday, The Burwash Ladies Group will meet at the village hall from 2.15pm. The members will hear about Mad Jack Fuller of Brightling. New Members are always welcome to go along. The outing this month is to see Oklahoma. For more details about the group why not go along on Wednesday.

The annual charity soup lunch, in aid of Admiral Nurses - for dementia care in the home, is being held in the Burwash village hall on Thursday from 12.30pm for 1pm. Tickets are £7.50 each. Available will be at least six delicious home made soups, try one try them all. These will be followed by scrummy desserts. Soft drinks will be available, please bring your own wine if you wish. Next Saturday, local internationally renowned, one man theatre, Brian D Barnes will be performing Charles Dickens, A Christmas Carol. He will be on stage at the Burwash village hall from 7.30pm. Brian who is celebrating his 60th year as a professional actor invites you to join him. Tickets are £12 for adults, children /Students £6. They are on sale at the Burwash News agents.

There is to be a basic first aid course on Saturday 30th November at the Wadhurst fire station. This is open to anyone who wishes to be aware of how first aid can save lives. Places are limited so you need to book in early, and takes place from 2pm until 5.30pm. Call Margery Masters on 01580 200378 to book.
